Little People

The Little People were the first inhabitants of Ireland. They were chased when human beings arrived. They took refuge underground: they dug galleries in the rocks under the country earth.
This is a picture of one of The Little People Stone Castle.
As you can see on the picture, it was built on rocks. Not because of the higher ground but because it was the entrance of the galleries. The castle was here to prevent the Little People to get out.
On the first photographies of Irish country people, you never see young boys. Their mothers disguised them into young girls. They were afraid that the little people might capture them in the night and bring them back in the caves to train them into soldiers (so they could fight back humans).
Reading advice: A Mid-Winter Morning's Dream (fr: Les Celtiques), maybe the best of all Corto Maltese. You'll discover quite a few things on the first inhabitants of Ireland.
