I wandered in the streets of Cork and found Other Realms. A shop that sells role playing games, card games and other related stuff. In the back, there were orcs, goblins, dwarves, trolls and spiders on a table. Well, painted figurines of course. Around the table were two 10-year old kids, two 40-year old fathers, six spectators (age 15 to 35) and a tall skinny man.

He tried to teach the kid to play Warhammer[1]. But he mainly told the story of the game. He took appropriate voices (or grunts in the case of orcs) for the different characters and made them say odd things you could hear in the lord of the rings movies. I suspect the kids didn't pay too much attention to the rules but they loved listening to the guy -and so did I.

Later on, I played Pirates[2]. A one hour six-player very close game. It was really fun.

On the way back home, there was this sign: Today cricket game, Galway vs Cork. All welcome. And so I entered a cricket field. Perfectly green field with a dozen players on it. All white dressed. Those who wore a sleeveless pull-over were supposed to catch a ball that those who wore protective devices and bats tried to send away after those who hadn't any pull-over threw it at them.

Sometimes the pull-over dressed clapped their hands but I really couldn't tell if they were applauding or just cold.

A little kid asked her mother why only two players had hurleys. She answered that it was not hurley, it was more like baseball, you know the game they play in New-York and in the movies.

I think that the ones with the bat had to run to score points whereas the pitchers -those who hadn't any pull-over- had to hit a wooden stick but I wouldn't swear it. Sometimes, the batmen did someting and the pitchers swapped[3]. The cold grabbers sometimes jumped on the ground to try and catch the ball, when they missed, it seemed good for the batmen who began to run.

I stayed almost half an hour but in the end, I really couldn't tell who won. Or even if a team lead.

Bye now.

Notes

[1] I still don't understand why he sometimes rolled one dice and some other times twelve...

[2] Soon, I'll tell you more about this game.

[3] The old pitcher slipped a pull-over in and the new one left his. This either proves that the pitcher is not cold or that he found that way to be recognised...
